There, where medieval villages are akin to islands in a sea of never-ending vineyards, an area synonymous with wine and culture; only there can you taste wines that will fascinate your palate. Do you know this place? Rioja Alavesa awaits you. In each winery, the winemakers will reveal the secrets of winemaking. Because it's here where wine has its origins and it's here where it tastes best.
El Fabulista Winery (The Fabulist's Cellar) is located in the heart of Laguardia village and it is buried seven meters below a 17th century Palace. This winery gets its name from one of the most prestigious dwellers of the Palace and the Village: the writer of fables Félix Mª Samaniego.
This journey goes deep into the Palace underground until it reaches the main three parallel fretworks that constitute the winery: one for elaboration, another one for maturing and the last one for tasting our wines.
This underground winery is prepared to receive visitors and allows them to enjoy the explanations about fretworks origins as well as our wine elaboration process in the traditional manner of carbonic maceration.
The Fabulist’s Cellar is not only the biggest and most impressive winery of the 320 existent caves within the village walls but also one of the few in which the wine is elaborated in the traditional way.
The visit consists of a brief historical summary and continues with an enjoyable and graphic explanation about the wine elaboration in our lakes, treading the grape as used to be done in the past. We will also go over the underground fretworks and later, the visit will finalize with a tasting consisting of wines elaborated in our own winery.
During the tasting we will receive a visit from the illustrious writer Felix Mª de Samaniego who will make us have a good time with his fables and erotic tales.
